Eight Kriyas – Breathing exercise

Kriyas are supreme techniques to be practiced rigorously.
The mind and the breath are closely connected, every psychological state has a corresponding breathing pattern. When troubled or confused do yoga asanas. Clarity will come. Or sit quietly in an asana and just breathe with awareness.
“ Let prana merge in mind
And together the two be stilled
Then no more shall birth and death be
Therefore learn to direct breath” ( Tirumantiram)
Exercise: sit straight and relaxed. When inhaling through the nostrils the breath goes to the chest, when using the mouth the breath goes to the stomach.
- Inhale slowly and deeply thru both nostrils, exhale thru both nostrils. Repeat five times.
- Inhale thru both nostrils and enhale thru mouth with slightly pursed lips. Repeat five times.
- Inhale deeply thru mouth with slightly pursed lips and enhale thru nostrils. Repeat five times.
- Close off right nostril with thumb of right hand, inhale thru left nostril. Closing left nostril with ring finger inhale thru right nostril. Repeat five times.
